Art of War

From ancient Roman reliefs to modern photojournalism, how do artists capture the raw truth of conflict? This immersive 8-week course investigates the profound shift from war propaganda to deeply personal expressions of trauma, resilience, and memory. Moving beyond the textbook, students study original historical artifacts — including the Museum world-class Higgins Arms and Armor collection — and spend time in the studio transforming these insights into their own powerful visual art. Through printmaking, expressive charcoal, and conceptual sculpture, students will discover how art acts as both a mirror to historical tragedy and a pathway toward collective healing.
